Large threads for the turbine industry

Industries such as turbine manufacturer require particularly large threads. Gühring has tap drills and fluteless taps for thread sizes from M16 to M39 in the programme specifically for these applications. The special geometries are not only adapted to the special requirements in the production of large threads, they are also suitable for machining typical materials used in energy technology and are primarily used in high-strength steels, aluminium and AlSi alloys with up to 6% Si content and cast iron.

Tools for giants

There are special solutions for wind power. The manufacture of rotor blades and rotor hubs, drives, gearboxex, nacelles and towers, as well as the necessary connections between these components requires numerous high-precision machining operations. Precise holes with a perfect surface finish, load-bearing threads, precisely milled surfaces and slotting, accurately fitted countersinking or cleanly deburred hole entrances and exits are the tasks that tool manufacturers are confronted with.

The right solution for every requirement

Gühring offers economical solutions in which the tool material, coating and geometry are precisely matched to the requirements of the machining and the material to be machined. This also includes innovative solutions such as µ-precisely adjustable tools and tool holders. For example, Gühring interchangeable insert drilling systems are used to hold the fastening bolt in the GRP rotor blade. A PCD corner-tipped solid carbide drill is used to drill the holes for the threaded rods used to anchor the rotor blade to the hub. Both solid carbide drills from the extensive Gühring standard range and solid carbide special step drills are used for machining the fastening bolts from high-strength steel. The threads in the bolts are produced using standard thread formers for small and special taps for large threads.
