Unbridled power for your process

120 years of manufacturing know-how, innovative strength and synergy: these are the pillars of our success that have enabled Gühring – once a pioneer in the field of drills – to grow into a complete supplier and market leader. This has been made possible by our in-house R&D departments in geometry, manufacturing and coating, our own carbide production, and our grinding and coating facilities. This is what fuels the performance of our products, enabling us to continually set new standards for the industry. The RT 100 XF drill bit is the crowning glory of this knowledge advantage. Its unbridled power guarantees outstanding machining results in your processes.

Own carbide & nanoFIRE coating

Extremely hard, absolutely break-resistant: the carbide developed especially for the RT 100 XF manages the tightrope walk between hardness and toughness thanks to the unique combination of tungsten carbide and cobalt. The special structure of this unique composite cutting material has a resharpening effect. Large chipping, which accelerates wear on the tool, no longer occurs. The tried-and-tested nanoFire coating contains aluminium as well as titanium and nitrogen and is characterised by high hardness and good thermochemical resistance. Thanks to our own R&D field for coating systems and coatings, nanoFire has been further developed for the RT 100 XF with a specially designed pre- and post-treatment. This surface treatment smoothes the coating, making it significantly more robust.

Geometry and microgeometry

Four guide chamfers engage extremely early, thereby perfecting coaxiality, ensuring perfect hole quality, improving straightness and surfaces – and are therefore standard on the RT 100 XF drill from 3xD upwards. The third and fourth support chamfers cut the hole to achieve a perfect smoothing effect. The drill point, protected by a negative chamfer along the side cutting edge, makes the cutting edge ultra-robust and durable. For extreme performance. In addition, the microgeometry in the form of a cutting edge rounding reduces roughness. This creates a stable cutting edge that is also easy to cut with. The μm-precise reproducibility is made possible by our manufacturer expertise. Original quality is restored in our in-house regrinding and recoating centres.

Drilling steel at the highest level

Where others are still drilling, it has long since finished: the RT 100 XF. The geometry of the solid carbide drill reduces cutting forces and process temperatures. The double margin (already from 3xD) gives the tool the highest running smoothness for perfect surfaces. The option of high feed drilling with 3 – 6% of the diameter ensures a significant reduction in machining time per component in practice.

Your advantages with the RT 100 XF:

  • combined optimisation of all tool parameters enables extreme feed rates and huge metal removal rate
  • in-house high-end finishing for maximum utilisation of the performance
  • cycle time reduction for difficult-to-machine materials and special applications in series production

The features in detail

No problem with chips

The special tip geometry of the RT 100 XF enables short chip breakage. To ensure that these short chips are also reliably removed, Gühring uses a polished flute with the highest surface quality for the RT 100 XF. This allows the chips to flow out of the hole even better, which protects the hole surface and significantly reduces the machining temperature on the workpiece and drill. By reducing the friction between the chip and tool, the process forces are also lower. In addition, chip jamming and chip blockages are avoided in this way.

High-end drills for heavy-duty machining

Numerous customer examples demonstrate the practical results of all this development work: Compared to a conventional solid carbide drill, the RT 100 XF achieves cutting speeds that are almost 20% higher. The feed rates per revolution are up to 40% higher with the Gühring drill, which in turn leads to a significant reduction in machining time per component.
