Industrial areas such as turbine manufacturers require especially large threads. Specifically for these applications Guhring has taps and fluteless taps for thread sizes from M16 to M39 in the programme. The special geometries are not only adapted to the special requirements for the production of large threads, furthermore they are also suitable for the machining of materials typical to energy technology and are predominantly applied in high-tensile steels, aluminium and AlSi-alloys up to 6% Si-content and cast iron.
There are individual solutions especially for the wind power sector. The manufacture of rotor blade and rotor hub, drive, transmission, gondola and tower as well as the necessary connections between these components requires numerous high-precision machining operations. Accurate holes with perfect surface finish quality, stable threads, accurately milled surfaces and grooves, precision-fit countersinks or cleanly de-burred hole entries and exits are tasks with which the tool manufacturers see themselves confronted.
In this respect Guhring provides economical solutions so that tool material, coating and geometry are perfectly adapted to the machining task and to the material to be machined. This also includes innovative solutions such as µ-precise adjustable tools and tool holders. Here, for example, Guhring’s interchangeable insert drilling system is applied for holding the mounting bolt in the GFRP rotor blade. The production of the holes to take through the threaded rods with which the rotor blade is anchored to the hub is carried out with a PCD corner-tipped solid carbide drill. Solid carbide drills from Guhring’s comprehensive standard range as well as solid carbide special step drills are applied for the machining of the high-tensile steel mounting bolts. The thread production in the bolts is carried out with standard fluteless taps for small threads as well as special taps for large threads.
