PCD/PCBN tools

Highest demands on processes

Machining rates of up to 90 per cent, complex shaped structural components, high-temperature resistant materials, specifications and standards: there is hardly any other industry outside of aviation where the requirements for tools are so complex. Components are manufactured here that must have precise dimensional accuracy and outstanding surface qualities. In addition, there are new types of materials in the field of lightweight construction: the trend within fibre composites is moving away from cost-effective short-fibre-reinforced glass fibre materials for simple trim parts towards structural components made of higher-quality materials with carbon fibres. However, their machining presents tool manufacturers with difficulties that must be compensated for through targeted adjustments.

Diverse tool solutions

In addition to drilling, reaming and countersinking tools made of HSS or carbide or with PCD cutting edges, we offer specially designed tool systems for the pre-machining and finishing of components made of aluminium, titanium and superalloys as well as sandwich materials for every application and machine type. Special features include tools for very small holes and special threaded shank forms, as well as tools for the assembly of aircraft components on riveting systems, robots, and drill feed units.

PCD tools in the online shop

We offer tool solutions for use on drill feed units to produce the high-precision cylindrical and tapered holes in aluminium and titanium structures required for wing assembly.

For milling CFRP and other plastics, we manufacture tools with PCD cutting edges and coated carbide. Carbide milling cutters with specially developed geometries, cutting materials and coatings are available for the machining of components made from aluminium, titanium and nickel-based alloys.

Since many machines in the aerospace industry still have interfaces for screwing in tools, we have developed special shrink fit chucks that are very compact and have a corresponding threading interface. This allows conventional shank tools to be shrunk in, reducing tooling costs and eliminating the need for brazed tools.
