Exceptional easy cutting

The machining of soft, tough and high-alloy materials poses particular challenges for the tool, because the wrong choice will result in built-up edges and chip jam. In the worst case, the tool breaks.

Solid carbide milling cutters in action

With our solid carbide milling cutter RF 100 Sharp, you no longer have to worry about this:
With a rake angle of 12°, it is our sharpest milling cutter and ensures a smooth, quiet cut in all soft, tough materials with a tensile strength of 300 – 900 N/mm². The combination of specially developed carbide and a AlCrN coating enables a high level of performance in machining, not only under stable machining conditions. The RF 100 Sharp also masters unstable machines and clamping situations effortlessly. Despite high requirements, long tool lives can be achieved thanks to customised micro- and macro-geometry.

Milling on a new level

Thanks to its unique geometry and tuned tool material, the RF 100 Sharp ensures maximum efficiency and outstanding results with the milling, regardless of the operating conditions.

Specialist and generalist

With the RF 100 Sharp, you can slot, rough, finish, ramp and helically plunge. This makes our sharpest milling cutter your universal tool for machining soft, tough materials.

In addition, the dimensions start at a diameter of 1 mm, making the Sharp ideal for use in the micro field. It is the perfect complement to our RF 100 Micro Diver: as a 4-fluted cutter, our milling cutter is ideal for finishing after roughing with the Micro Diver, significantly optimising the surface quality.

Powerful & smooth among all operating conditions

Whether you have a powerful CNC milling machine or a power-limited lathe, the RF 100 Sharp solid carbide milling cutter is designed to cover the entire range of different operating conditions. And it always achieves excellent results: under stable machine conditions, it enables HPC milling at extremely high cutting speeds, resulting in high metal removal rates. In addition to conventional machining, the milling cutter is also suitable for GTC machining (Gühring Trochoidal Cutting). But even with unstable machines or clamping setups (MTC), the sharp solid carbide milling cutter remains unperturbed, ensuring low-vibration operation and optimum results. The carbide used is characterised by its relatively high toughness. This property prevents the milling cutter from breaking under suboptimal conditions or at slow cutting speeds. The AlCrN coating offers high wear protection under aggressive cutting parameters. The chromium content provides additional protection against oxidation. This makes the milling cutter ideal for slower cutting speeds.

The features in detail

Discover the milling cutter properties

The geometry of the RF 100 Sharps is designed to offer you reliable processes under all conditions. A stable core diameter with a large flute profile ensures a reliable chip removal. Four cutting edges with unequal spacing increase the running smoothness of the milling cutter during machining, and a special corner protection chamfer offers even greater stability and edge strength. To ensure that the milling cutter remains as usable as possible, we rely on an unequal helix pitch, which reduces vibrations and thus also wear. An AlCrN coating offers even more wear protection, while an optimised facet cut extends the tool life by providing vibration-reducing properties and ensuring smooth running. Even in unstable conditions, a very tough tool material prevents the tool from breaking. This makes the milling cutter powerful on all machines.

More efficient with application-orientated dimensions

With the RF 100 Sharp, we have included a milling cutter with an extra-long design in our portfolio for the first time. This variant is based on “long (DIN)”, but has a longer cutting edge than the standardised milling cutter and you benefit from this in three ways:

Reduce your tooling costs:
When performing machining of greater depths, you can now also use a more cost-effective milling cutter with a smaller diameter.

Save space in the tool magazine:
Thanks to flexible use at different depths, you need a smaller selection of cutters.

Extend the service life of the tool:
The excess length allows you to perform regrinding and recoating on the milling cutter more often.

For machining even greater depths, the RF 100 Sharp is also available in a medium-length version. This version has been designed so that the cutting edge (l2) accounts for more than 50% of the range (cutting edge + neck) (l3). This allows the customer to machine their workpiece (l3) with just two milling paths.

The following example illustrates the differences in length:
