Bundled expertise

We combine expertise in all areas relevant to tool manufacturing: our own tool materials, geometry development and in-house coating systems. These decades of experience as manufacturers and pioneers, uniform standards in production and service, as well as worldwide QA certifications secure our quality and yours.

Tool materials

Precision starts with the raw material
Our own carbide production

This is why our own manufacturing of our tool materials is an important pillar of tool production. The production is used for worldwide distribution to our subsidiaries and for sales to our own customer groups.

Plant & mechanical engineering

Own mechanical engineering and in-house system development

Gühring began building its own machines back in the 1920s. Today, a century later, around 200 employees take care of the customised implementation of our own production systems. These guarantee uniform quality standards worldwide and contribute to the efficiency of our manufacturing with a high degree of automation.

Modern mechanical engineering with CNC machines in a production line

Through the in-house development and manufacturing of machines and systems, we can tailor tools precisely to the individual requirements of our customers. This enables us to optimise performance. In addition, thanks to our self-developed machines and systems, we are able to react flexibly to new requirements and technologies. We can quickly make adjustments and implement innovative solutions.

Geometries

In-house R&D for tool development

Trends in the metal cutting industry are shaped and implemented in our in-house research and development centres. This enables Gühring to secure its technological leadership in the market for rotating precision tools. Decades of grinding expertise meets the increased demands for precision in cutting geometry that have arisen over recent decades.

Our in-house R&D department ensures progress in geometry development and in adjustments to the macro and micro design of the cutting edge. Important parameters here are cutting edge preparation, web thinning, design of the main and side cutting edges, and cutting edge corner. Of course, our customers also benefit from this: we have test fields where only customer trials are conducted and a central Quality Assurance Department that ensures our standards are met across all tool parameters.

Coatings

In-house coating facilities and coating development

Gühring presented the world’s first TiN coating on HSS drills back in the early 1980s, setting a milestone in the world of machining. Since then, the company’s own field coating has established itself, developing and manufacturing both new coatings and the necessary coating technology.

Overall, Gühring’s coatings help to make tools more efficient and durable. By perfectly adapting the composition of our coatings to the individual requirements of specific applications and materials, we are taking the performance of our tools to a whole new level. In this way, we use coatings as adjusting screws for efficient machining.
