Circular economy
Use high-quality raw materials sustainably
Simply throw away worn out tools? They’re far too good for that! We offer you an environmentally friendly and economically attractive alternative: our recycling for carbide tools. This not only saves you large amounts of energy and protects the environment, but also turns your scrap into cash.
Please note that our carbide recycling services and bonus model are currently only available to our customers in Germany.
Turn your carbide-scrap into cash
Have your cutting tools lost their cutting properties? That doesn’t make them unusable, because the carbide they were made from is valuable. That’s why we buy your worn tools, recycle them and manufacture new tools from the raw materials.
You don’t have to worry about anything, because we organise everything around the carbide scrap for you. You simply collect your carbide scrap in our yellow drums, which we provide to you for free. We then buy it back based on the current market price. You can decide whether you want to send the barrels back to us or have them collected directly from your production facility by our collection service. Particularly practical: install a “pick-up button” in your manufacturing, which you can use to automatically notify us as soon as a drum is due to be collected.

Bonus programme
Close the loop & save money
With our bonus programme, you can get better prices for your carbide scrap and buy your new tool for less! All you have to do is start the Gühring Tool Circle by selling your carbide to us.
The prerequisite for a discount on a new purchase is to sell your carbide to Gühring. Each additional stage of the Gühring Tool Circle earns you an additional bonus of three percent. And if you map the entire tool cycle with Gühring, we will add an extra three percent on top. This way, you can save up to 15 percent on the new purchase price with our bonus programme.
Example calculation:
| 50 kg | x | 20 € | + | 15 % | = | €1,150 |
| Carbide scrap (quantity) | Market price (per kilo) | Received bonus (total) | Credit note on new tool |
Your scrap is added value
Mapping the entire tool cycle via Gühring? That makes sense, because by relying on one manufacturer for carbide, new tools and regrinding, you reduce your supplier diversity and secure your quality.
Because everything from carbide production to recycling takes place in Germany at Gühring, your supply chains are guaranteed with us. At the same time, Gühring simplifies your logistical processes for tool management, including tool disposal.
Your benefits with the Gühring bonus programme:

inas confirms 65% CO2 savings through recycling
“In our Product Carbon Footprint Study, we analysed the production of carbide rods at company Gühring KG in Kulmbach. Our results showed that the recycling of carbide at Gühring saves 64.8% CO2 compared to the use of commercially available carbide powder made from primary materials. For us, it is therefore clear that the switch to secondary raw materials in carbide production and thus the topic of material cycles represent the greatest lever for saving CO2 emissions.”

Circular economy: The most important questions & answers
What is circular economy?
What are the main goals and principles of the circular economy?
The circular economy encompasses various principles: products are designed to be durable, repairable and reusable in order to reduce the need for new resources by extending their life. Products and components are remanufactured and repaired as often as possible to extend their life cycle and reduce material requirements. Materials are recycled at the end of their useful life and returned to the production cycle. Production and consumption are designed to minimise waste and pollutants. This includes the use of environmentally friendly production methods and materials.
Which technologies support the circular economy?
The circular economy is supported by various technologies that promote resource efficiency and minimise waste. Recycling technologies enable efficient processing of waste materials, while data analysis with the Gühring Tool Management software enables more precise monitoring of wear data. 3D printing also reduces overproduction through demand-driven manufacturing.
What are secondary raw materials?
What role does recycling play in the circular economy?
Recycling plays a central role in the circular economy as it helps to keep materials and resources in the production cycle and minimise waste. Through recycling, materials that are at the end of their useful life are collected, sorted and transformed into new products or raw materials. This allows resources such as metals, plastics, glass and paper to be reused instead of mining or extracting new raw materials. Recycling reduces the need for primary raw materials, lowers the environmental impact of mining and quarrying, and reduces the amount of waste going to landfill or incineration. It also promotes resource efficiency and contributes to the conservation of limited natural resources. In the circular economy, recycling is therefore an essential building block for a sustainable and resource-efficient economy.
What role do resources play in the circular economy?
Resources play a central role in the circular economy, as they form the basis for the production of goods and enable the sustainable use of these goods. In a circular economy, resources are used, reused and recycled efficiently in order to minimise waste and reduce environmental impact. By closing material cycles, limited natural resources are conserved and their availability secured for future generations. Resource efficiency is a key aspect of the circular economy that helps to reduce the environmental impact of production and promote a sustainable economy. The circular economy strives to optimise the use of resources by focusing on durability, reparability and reusability of products and considering waste as a valuable resource that can be fed back into the production process.
